As rehearsals begin for the Broadway revival of The House of Blue Leaves, Tony nominee Thomas Sadoski has joined the cast as Billy Einhorn, along with Susan Bennett as Second Nun and Jimmy Davis as Military Policeman. David Cromer’s production is set to begin a strictly limited 16-week engagement at the Walter Kerr Theatre on April 4, with opening night set for April 25.
The cast of The House of Blue Leaves also includes previously announced stars Ben Stiller as Artie Shaughnessy, Edie Falco as Bananas Shaughnessy, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Bunny Flingus, Alison Pill as Corrinna Stroller, Mary Beth Hurt as Head Nun, Christopher Abbott as Ronnie Shaughnessy and Halley Feiffer as Little Nun.
The House of Blue Leaves centers on Artie Shaughnessy (Stiller), a zookeeper and wannabe songwriter, who is trying to cope with a schizophrenic wife (Falco), an impatient girlfriend (Leigh) and a visit from the Pope, all while sustaining his dream of hitting it big. Guare’s play, first performed off-Broadway in 1966, is a satirical take on celebrity, religion and the frequent merging of the two. Stiller made his professional debut as Ronnie Shaughnessy in Lincoln Center Theater’s 1986 Broadway revival of play; his mother, Anne Meara, played Bunny in the original production.
Sadoski most recently co-starred in the off-Broadway premiere of Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities. He received a Best Actor Tony nomination for Neil LaBute’s Reasons to be Pretty and appeared on Broadway in Reckless. Off-Broadway credits include Becky Shaw, All This Intimacy, The Mistakes Madeline Made, Jump/Cut, Where We’re Born, The General from America and Gemini. He was featured in Sam Mendes’ 2010 Bridge Project productions of As You Like It and The Tempest.
